toasted marshmallows

The boys have enjoyed their time at camp this summer and one of their favorite activities is roasting marshmallows over the camp fire. They all get into it and have gotten pretty good at doing it without injuring themselves or others.

Its looking a little dark there, Nick

Bodie, that's an interesting method

Thankfully, they all like their treats well done :)

Greetings loved ones....

Let's take a journey....

A few weeks back, I missed my 12-miler with the girls when they headed down to MDI for the Bar Harbor 1/2 on the morning that Nick had his first soccer game. So, on Sunday morning, bright and early, I put on my sneaks and headed out the door for a solo long run. It was a beautiful, quiet morning and I couldn't help but wish I could share it with friends. Then, in my caffeine-deprived state, I decided that I would :) Armed with my cell phone camera, I set out to document the trip.

Here we are about 1.5 miles into the run, heading out Western Ave. I love that while we live in a neighborhood, I can be in a much more rural setting in minutes...

Time to dig in heading up the first hill. It doesn't look too bad in this picture but it goes on for a while when you're on foot

This is one of my favorite houses in Hampden. I love this barn....

Approaching Canaan Rd, check out those dudes in the field

They headed up to the road just as I was passing but then took off when they saw me - big turkeys!

Beautiful

The leaves were just starting to turn (they're pretty much in full swing right now)

Pretty little stream

Heading down Sawyer Rd. The trees just keep going

Cool-looking blue berries. Anyone know what they are?

Nice reflection

You can't quite see, but the dew was sparkling in the flowers... just spectacular

Plantation in Georgia? Nope, Hampden

Not sure what happened to my picture of the horrible broken pavement on Kennebec Rd (I swear I will break my ankle there one of these days) but here is the soon to be repaved Mayo Rd - the home stretch!

Fresh pavement - aaaahhhh, so nice for sore feet!

Great job - 12 miles down! Thanks for joining me :)

brock brock brock

While Nick is at school, Tim and I have lots of adventures, like this and this and this. Another thing we like to do is head over to our neighbor's house and to feed and visit with the ladies.

Our neighbor has a flock of chickens who really dig stale bread and pb&j crusts, and we've got lots of that to share!

We tried giving them some just past ripe tomatoes. Some of them really liked 'em but it seemed to be an acquired taste for most.

They are a lot of fun to watch, and its always heart-warming to see them rush over when they notice us coming.

Makes me kind of wonder about a flock of our own in the future... :)

back to the bog walk

Once Nick started up with school again, Tim and I headed over to the bog walk for a lovely morning stroll.

We examined the interpretive signs

We skipped (and ran) along the boards

We twirled around in the breeze

We took pictures

We played follow the leader

It was really nice to get some alone time with him and really be able to appreciate what a happy, laid-back kiddo he is!

my weekend

I managed to escape for a little time away with the girls this weekend, while my wonderful and amazing husband Greg stayed home with the kids :) Following a dreamy (or should I say, McDreamy) stop in Freeport, we headed down to Portland where we ran the Maine Marathon Half. The weekend couldn't have been better! Emilie did such a great job summing up the weekend, you should head over to her blog and read her account, while I try to catch up with my tasks around here :)
