Poison Control

So, I made my first call to Poison Control this afternoon. Just to quell any fears up front - everyone is completely ok. It was around 4:30 or so. Nick was in the family room watching a video since we got 2 poops on the potty today (as well as being dry all day to that point)! Tim was behind the couch (basically in the doorway of the kitchen) pulling newspaper out of the recycle bin (a favorite pasttime). I was at the kitchen counter starting to get dinner ready. I took a quick peek over to see how everyone was doing and found Nick defoliating the hanging plant in the family room (which he can only reach by climbing up onto the back of the couch). Ugh. He was dropping the leaves over the back of the couch onto Tim and both kids thought it was hilarious. Oh well. But, Tim being Tim right now, decided he wanted to put the leaves in his mouth . The plant, Golden Pothos (ie, houseplant that thrives in all conditions and survives through massive neglect), turns out to be poisonous... Ugh. Anyway, I caught them before Tim actually swallowed any and was able to fish the masticated wad of leaf out of his mouth. The nice lady at Poison Control told me that I should just wipe out his mouth with a wet washcloth and give him something to drink (evidently, the plant would likely just cause irritation in the mouth). As long as he was drinking and eating ok, he should be fine. He did and all was well. Phew! Nick was sufficiently shocked by my response that he offered up an apology on his own (WOW) and has vowed never to touch the plant again (we'll see about that). That being said, the plant may find a new home at least until Tim is out of his must-eat-everything phase....
