MDI Marathon 2010, part 2

pre-race

The race day was beautiful and couldn't have been more perfect. Hard to believe considering the weather 2 days prior, when we had to pick up our race packets. Before checking the forecast, I offered to go down to MDI on Friday to pick up packets for everyone. I figured that it'd be a fun outing for Tim and that we'd stop at the beach somewhere and maybe get some lunch and icecream. Amanda thought that it sounded good and decided to join us with the boys. Um, well, the weather had other plans.

We figured that we could bring the boys to the oceanarium on the island - there are some indoor parts and it would be something different from our usual. Thankfully, I called and mentioned that we'd have 3 little boys 3 and under because they said that they only have a set 1.5 hr guided program, with no deviation from the schedule and no casual wandering around. And, even though it was October and there weren't likely to be many visitors, there were no exceptions. WTF?

We piled into the car anyhow

thinking that we'd just head over to the visitors center and let the kids loose there for a little while. But, the rain started falling harder, and then sideways, and then a little something caught Amanda's eye...

It ended up being the perfect stop for the kids. There weren't too many other shoppers for them to disturb, and the store was clean (for a Mardens). They had fun looking at the halloween stuff

and goofing around

Once we got onto the island, it started raining even harder

That sign says welcome MDI marathon

I picked up the packets just after noon, and we headed back to Ellsworth for lunch

A fun adventure for the kids and really, not that a bad way to spend a rainy day! And thankfully, clear skies for the race!
